| Set at the Eastern end of ancient Bideford Bridge, this hotel is associated with the 17th-century Court of Assize, Sir Charles Kingsley, and the D-Day Landings; ideal for a heritage enthusiast. One of the hotel's most famous features is the oak panelled Kingsley Room, with its ornate sculptured ceiling, named in honour of Charles Kingsley who penned much of his famous novel, Westward Ho!, at the hotel. Known as the Little White Town, Bideford has the benefit of easy access to the sights of North Devon to the East, and Cornwall to the West. The village of Clovelly is only a short drive away and walking and cycling enthusiasts can explore the picturesque Tarka Trail. | A Georgian country house set in 7 hilltop acres with magnificent views over the Torridge Estuary to Lundy Island. Selected by the AA as 'One of Britain's Best in 2007'. Lynn and Robin Pirrie welcome you to The Pines at Eastleigh where log-fires, king-size beds, a garden room bar with library, maps and a warm welcome await our guests. Breakfast is served in the drawing room where a log fire burns on during early mornings, and the view from the window stretches from Hartland Point to Lundy Island over the little white town of Bideford. Breakfasts use home produced and locally sourced ingredients: fruit from the garden, home made yoghurt and prize-winning local meats. Special diets can be catered for. The Pines is a NON-SMOKING establishment. Ground floor rooms around the peaceful courtyard garden are available. The courtyard rooms offer completely independent access so you may come and go as you please throughout your holiday. All rooms are en-suite, some with feature bathrooms. All have teletext television, well-stocked hospitality tray with tea and coffee making facilities, telephones, hairdryers, and central heating. Family suites are available. We can help you to organise cycling on the Tarka Trail, cliff walking, surfing, canoeing and other water sports. There is a different beach for each day of your holiday within easy reach; Dartmoor and Exmoor to explore, gardens at RHS Rosemoor and Tapeley Park as well as the fishing villages of Clovelly and Appledore. The cottages are available for self-catering. Enjoy a relaxing drink after a days exploration in the Garden Room whose windows look to the south over the gardens and fields. Whether you choose a traditional pub like our 'local' Westleigh, or speciality seafood - eating in North Devon is reassuringly inexpensive. The diversity of landscapes within this unique area with its magnificent coast, moorland and rolling farmland all combine to offer visitors to the area an almost limitless range of activities to enjoy while on holiday. North Devon has over 850 square miles of some of England's finest coast and countryside. The Pines at Eastleigh is centrally located in this unique environment. From the hotel there are many walks along quiet lanes and footpaths with fine views. The interesting ancient port of Bideford, the fishing village of Appledore, the estuary at Instow and the sweeping beach at Westward Ho! are only a few minutes drive away. Clovelly, Tintagel, Lynton, Exmoor and Dartmoor are within an hour's drive. Golf, cycle hire, water sports (notably surfing) and horse riding are in easy reach.
